SKAC Education Departments

The Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) has demonstrated a strong commitment to the holistic development of its region, particularly in the realm of education. To achieve this goal, SKAC has established four vital education departments: Primary Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education, and Adult Education. The Primary Education department focuses on laying a strong educational foundation for the region’s youth, ensuring that children receive quality primary education. The Secondary Education department likely oversees the provision of essential educational services for middle and high school students, ensuring a seamless transition from primary to secondary schooling.

The Higher Education department plays a pivotal role in offering opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, promoting higher learning and skill development among the local populace. Finally, the Adult Education department likely focuses on providing educational resources and programs to empower adults in the community, fostering lifelong learning and skill enhancement. Primary Education

Primary education or elementary education is typically the first stage of formal education, coming after preschool/kindergarten and before secondary school. Primary education takes place in primary schools, elementary schools, or first schools and middle schools, depending on the location.

Secondary Education

Secondary education begins in grade 9 and lasts until grade 12. The secondary stage is broken into two, two year cycles, generally referred to as General/Lower Secondary School, or 'Standard X', and Upper/Senior Secondary School, or 'Standard XII'.


Higher Education

Higher education is tertiary education leading to the award of an academic degree. Higher education, which makes up a component of post-secondary, third-level, or tertiary education, is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after completion of secondary education.

Adult Education

Adult Education aims at extending educational options to those adults, who have lost the opportunity and have crossed the age of formal education, but now feel a need for learning of any type, including literacy, basic education equivalency, skill development (Vocational Education) and Continuing Education.
